The Oriskany Is Finally Coming

It looks like they have finally cleared all of the hurdles necessary to use the USS Oriskany as an artificial reef in the Gulf.

This will be good for fish and divers, but I have a personal interest. Technically, Oriskany, New York is my birthplace and I graduated from high school there. While it is my Mother's hometown, my presence was a matter of timing during my Father's military career.

As you would learn if you went to the Oriskany Museum it was the site of one of the more important battles during the Revolutionary War, a requirement for the names of the Lexington-class aircraft carriers.

It is a better end to provide an environment for new life under the Gulf than be chopped up for scrap metal.
