The above photo appears on the front page of today's Pensacola News Journal. Is it intended as a visual metaphor for the blind eye retiring county administrator George Touart turned toward his undisclosed, tangled business dealings? Is it a symbol of the poke-in-the-eye delivered by the "frenzy of articles" over the past couple of weeks in the News Journal?
Or does the photo depict Touart reading some of those "heated... blogs and e-mails and between his supporters and detractors?" That would be consistent with the new trend among politicians we've been witnessing lately, from the men's rooms of Idaho to the board rooms in Escambia County: when all else fails, blame the bloggers.

The problem with Touart, and so many like him, republicans especially, is they do not begin to realize the power of information.
Be it blog form, or google, information is there for any thinking citizen to read, and then act on.
Touart should have been gone after he asked the sheriff to step in and help his son out with his debts at the local strip club, but somehow, P'Cola could get its large grabbing arms around that, and so he went on to profit and pillage for a few more years.
Better late than never, as dear old Mom would say. But really, enough is enough, time to wake up and smell the roses, P'Cola. This one horse cowpoke village needs some new life breathed into it, and the current form of government is not remotely concerned with doing that.
