Santa Rosa County voters approved a liquor-by-the-drink referendum Tuesday, with 29,353 (58%) voting for the measure and 21,507(42%) against.
As it stands, qualifying restaurants in Santa Rosa County can now apply for liquor by the drink licenses, grocery stores will be able to sell wine, and up to 17 "quota licenses" based on population can be issued for stand-alone bars and liquor stores.
It was the county's first mail-in ballot, approved after Hurricane Ivan displaced som many voters in late 2004. Ballots were mailed to about 102,000 registered voters Aug. 18.
